Military ServiceMILITARY SERVICE: David enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1977 and served for over 23 years. He was named “Honor Graduate” of both his Basic Combat Training Course and his Advanced Individual Training Course as a Chaparral Missile Air Defense Artilleryman. During his enlistment he also earned the distinction of “Honor Graduate” in each of his following courses: Primary Leadership Development Course, Basic Non-commissioned Officers Course, Advanced Non-commissioned Officer’s Course, Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Warfare Course, the Army Recruiters Course and the Recruiting Station Commander’s Course. He also graduated from the Jungle Warfare Expert course in Panama. He qualified as an “Expert” marksman on multiple weapon systems including Pistol, Rifle, Machinegun, Missile, and Mortar and was awarded four Army Commendation Medals along with numerous other awards for merit. He was selected as Non-Commissioned Officer of the Year at Ft. Irwin, California. His service locations included two 2-year tours in the Republic of Korea where he served as an Air Defenseman and as a Forward Observer at a base located close to the Demilitarized Zone. His last 8 years were as a full-time member of the Michigan Army National Guard where he served as a Readiness NCO and as a Recruiter.

fireman-logo-clipart-1EDUCATION:  David attended several colleges and universities during his military service gathering a diverse education before finally settling on a degree as a Registered Nurse which he received from Davenport University. He is also a Certified Employment Training Specialist.  David was an Adjunct Faculty member at Saginaw Valley State University teaching American Sign Language for several years.

CURRENT EMPLOYMENT: David has been employed by V.O.I.C.E., Inc. of Michigan, a non-profit agency providing services to the Deaf, Hard of Hearing and Other People with Disabilities, since 2003 and has served as Employment Services Coordinator, Director of Community Services and is currently the Executive Director of the agency. V.O.I.C.E., Inc. offers American Sign Language Interpreters for the Deaf, spoken language interpreters, technology products for hard of hearing individuals, and in-home caregivers for the elderly and people with disabilities.

David and Tammy SchollFAMILY: David and Tammy, his wife of 17 years, live in Bangor Township. Between them, within their blended family, they have five children, one of whom is currently serving in the U.S. Air Force. They have four grandchildren. If you get a chance, ask him how he wooed Tammy and convinced her to marry him!

sheriffjpg-b8ec03d365586811COMMUNITY MEMBERSHIP: David is a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Parish, the National Rifle Association, the National Association for Gun Rights, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Bay City Lion’s Club. He is a supporter of Priests for Life, a national Pro-Life organization. He is a former Monitor Township Firefighter and a former Bay County Deputy Sheriff (Emergency Services Division). He has served on the Ballads & Brews festival committee and was a volunteer with the former 4th of July Parade committee.
